Big Ideas in Macbeth

On the first day of the unit Macbeth we had an introduction to Drama, Shakespeare, and the play itself in which we learned about the five elements of drama. key ideas about drama, background information on Shakespeare, and main ideas you will notice in the play; witchcraft, body politic, betrayal, kingship, guilt, and many more. One that I found important in the play was kingship.
Personally I feel as though kingship is very important because we start the book with the witch scene mentioning to Macbeth about becoming king, so from that moment I knew that kingship was going to be important. I did not realize how important it was until Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were planning the murder of Duncan so he can become king even sooner.

Besides the first murder of Duncan we know that as the book progresses, Macbeth murders more people. One of which that was surprising to me was the murder of his best friend, Banquo. The reason behind this as because he was considered a threat to his power, so he had the idea to murder him and his son, Fleance. We know that this was a strange murder because Banquo's ghost haunted Macbeth after during the feast. Personally,  feel as though this murder showed me how important kingship was to the book, because a man killed his best friend thinking that he was a threat to his power as king. Knowing that a man would go that far to save his power is crazy.

Identifying an Important Quote

Quote 1:
First Witch
All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis!
Second Witch
All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!
Third Witch
All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!

I feel as though this quote is considered an important quote in Macbeth. For one, it is in the beginning of the book and on the first day we discussed this quote, so I knew it had to be important. Looking further into the quote itself, it allowed me as a reader to see the past, how Macbeth was the Thane of Glamis, and the present because he currently is the thane of Cawdor. But then, Macbeth did not know that he would be, but when he figured out, he knew that the witches were telling the truth. It also shows the future of Macbeth and what will come later in the novel, which is being king. How he achieves this, I would not know at that part of the book, but because we have read through Act 3, I know that he murdered Duncan, then got people to murder Banquo and Fleance, but Fleance escaped.

Quote 2:
Macbeth
Come, we'll to sleep. My strange and self-abuse
Is the initiate fear that wants hard use.
We are yet but young in deed.

This quote, again not only did we discuss in class, but I feel as though I could elaborate more. As we know, right before this Banquo was murdered, and Macbeth was visited by his ghost. He says these lines to Lady Macbeth right before going to sleep. We talked in class about how this translated into modern language saying that these hallucinations are just because he is not used to murdering people, and we must kill more for these feelings to go away. We are not experienced killers, so I am having these feelings. Just as my other quote for shadowed the future, I feel as this one does as well. Because Macbeth is telling his wife, we need to kill more people, I feel as though they will but we do not know who.

Spring Break

During our week off of school, I was able to accomplish many of things. The first day of break, I completed all my homework, knowing that on the last day I would not want to even think of school. I completed all three projects; World History, Biology, and Geometry. Although it was hard to motivate myself to do school work after we just got off, I knew it would benefit me the last day of break while all my friends are doing homework, I could enjoy the day. Especially since it was going to be my birthday.

During the week of break that Tuesday, my friends and I left for Seaside, Florida. We had a house where the front was the center of the little town, and the back was to the beach. It was perfect, and I never wanted to leave. Every morning we would wake up and go down to the beach, come back up to the house or to a restaurant in the center for lunch, then back down to the beach until it was dinner. I never wanted to leave the beach especially with the music playing, and reading my book while tanning, I could have stayed there the whole day. The days were so relaxing and filled with fun until the last day was among us. As we packed our bags on that Friday night retreating to wakeup and leave Saturday morning, we were all enjoying and remembering the great time we had.

As we came home Saturday afternoon, I was greeted at my house by my father, brother, and crazy dogs happy for us to be home. Sadly, I had to unpack and put up my clothes, but it didn't matter because tomorrow would be my birthday. Writing this blog today, on my birthday, I am officially a fifteen year old. Yes, I'm behind the others but I will have my friend, Audrey, to drive me during the summer. Overall, this break was amazing and I can't wait for summer.

Respond To Statements

1. Everyone is capable of lying, betrayal, and violence, which are basic parts of human nature. (agree)
Personally I feel as though this statement is half true and half false, which is why I choose agree rather than strongly agree. I believe that the first part of the statement is true, "Everyone is capable of lying, betrayal, and violence,..." Sadly all of this things are bad, everyone is capable of doing it. The other half regarding how they are basic parts of human nature is false to me. Sure they are part of human nature, but I would not consider them the basic parts. I personally feel they are a contribution but the basic parts are the feelings of a person such as happy, and their behavior more than the actions.

2. Ambition is a postivite, desirable trait in a person. (agree)
I feel as though ambition is a desirable trait for myself. With great ambition, you can achieve great things, such as goals you set for yourself. I also feel as though it is a positive trait because depending on what you're trying to reach could be a positive thing. In other people, this trait might not be desirable, but I agree with the statement above.

Analyze a Song

Catch Me, a song by the disney artist Demi Lovato, is a song in which she wrote herself talking about love and how it feels falling in love. Throughout the song, her emotions are embodied within the lyrics in which she created. Deep within the lyrics, there is a meaning behind every word; just as in a poem. As I annotated the song, I came across many techniques that help Demi show her emotions through words.

In each new verse of the song, the first two lines are either an end rhyme or a slant rhyme. By using this, not only does it make the song catchy, but it relates the two lines together. For example it relates how to leave fast but kiss me and make it last before you go together. Also, the euphony of the lyrics creates this smooth pattern of the song. It allows certain words to stand out and create the happy and love tone to the song as well. There are also enjambments that creates this pause in the lyrics, that draws attention to certain words as well. By using these certain techniques, the close attention to the words, helps show the feelings of Demi within this song.

Fourth of July

Fourth of July
By: Claudia Bradford

As the sun fell and
the stars rose,
I turned to see the moon
as its face reflects onto the water.

Smiling back at me.

Walking on the sand
hearing the squeak of my steps,
and the loud boom and crackle
of the fireworks.
Flashes of sparkle
come from the sky.
What a beautiful sight.
Something no one could deny

What a great night,
on the Fourth of July.

Techniques Used:
1) Personnification - "I turned to see the moon/as its face reflects onto the water." "Smiling back at me."
2) Onomatopoeia - "hearing the squeak of my steps, / and the loud boom and crackle"
3) End Rhyme - crackle & sparkle, sky & deny, deny & july
4) Euphony - In the first stanza
5) Sibilance - sun, stars, see, face, reflects, smiling, sand...

Research Rough Paper Draft

After finishing my draft, I have mixed feelings. First of all, I am happy that I finished the draft and all my other homework at three o'clock in the afternoon because I have the whole day to relax. I also feel pretty confident in my draft because most of my work came from my detailed outline. Because I spent quality time on the outline the draft was not as hard as I expected it to be. The concern about my draft is how good it actually is. I was reading the sample research paper that was posted online and comparing it to mine. Although mine is a draft, while reading it was kind of hard to compare. Since that was a final and mine is a draft, but I think after reading I might need to work on my draft again and tweak some details.

All in all, it was pretty easy to complete overall because my detailed outline helped me a lot. I was very lucky at the end of my draft when counting my sources that I used six different sources in my detailed outline so I did not need to add or fix anything. The hard part was knowing what to say. I can talk on and on about my topic, but it would be repetitive. I had to find an order in which would flow all my research and make a great paper. Also I found embedding my paraphrases and quotes in the paragraphs was difficult. I had trouble with the last assignment as well, so I knew I needed to focus on that. When receiving my feedback I need to focus on making sure my quotes and information is embedded and make sure my format is correct. Also look at the comments as usual and try to fix as much as I can.

Sneaux Day Free Post

Over the snow days, I was able to do two things; enjoy myself and do homework. On the enjoy my self part, on Monday I had about six friends come home with me after school. We all were able to hang out, watch movies, bake, and stay warm inside while we waited for the snow. The next morning most went home before the roads would shut down but two stayed. That day we hung out with my neighbor and had a lot of fun. Where I lived we never had snow but we had ice, so we were outside looking at all the frozen fountains and ice sickles. Wednesday, I hung out with the same three people again and also my sister. We could not do too much since the roads were closed, but we tried to enjoy our little break off. Then, on Thursday my two friends left and I had the day to myself.

On the homework side of the break, I started on Monday night. For Spanish we had to make churros so all of my friends who took Spanish (4 out of the 6) all made churros together. Then on Tuesday morning, while all of my friends were figuring out their plans on getting picked up I started a math page. I also started to work on my rough draft and that was it for that day. Wednesday, I completed a second math page in the morning and at night I did a social studies assignment and worked on my rough draft again. Thursday is when all the homework was completed. I did two more math pages, another social studies assignment, work book pages online for social studies, and worked on my draft as well. I also took biology notes and answered five questions. All in all, thursday was my most productive day since it was just me, but I was able to complete work on the other days as well!

NHD Topic & Formally

First seeing this post, I thought how perfect; I'm doing it after school curently with five friends over. I have the perfect opportunity to talk to them about my project. Talking to them about my project, they were saying everyone is about the Holocaust. My answer to this was that I have never previously learned about the Holocaust. I wasn't a child who came from St. James and learned in depth about it in the fifth grade. I then talked about how for my topic I have learned many different ways of torture and weapons they used against their prisoners such as the infamous bone crushing machine. As well as background information, the starters of the camp, and all about the orchestra they had.

The Holocaust, a terrible time in our history, a variety of people a vast majority of Jewish people, were sent to many concentration camps and stripped of the rights. Janwoska, one of the active camps during this period, located on Janowska Street went through a series of changes to become the baddest camp around. They were able to use many of their resources, such as weapons and tools, as well as the structure of their camp to their benefit for harsh punishment of their prisoners. Because of this harsh punishment, the SS officers and officials of the camp were able to control the decisions and actions of their prisoners as well as the particularly crucial denial of human rights.

National History Day Project Topic

My topic for the National History Day project was narrowed down from Holocaust concentration camps to specifically a concentration camp called Janowska. As I began my research I realized that the tools, weapons, and resources that we amiable to this camp benefited the workers and SS officers of this site, to strip the rights of their prisoners. After fully narrowing down my topic specifically needing to be based on rights and responsibilities, my topic is how the resources used at the Janowska concentration camp benefit and effect how the prisoners rights where stripped from them.

Although my topic did not occur during the recent times of history, it is important to know information about. The Holocaust was a sad, terrible, time of our history that is worth having knowledge about. Concentration camps especially where the torture occurred, and great to know background information, Janowska serving as an example as one of these camps. This week, I am planning to go over my ten bibliographies in which I have already completed, but I need to go back and relook at my sources and my evaluation. Also, I plan to see if there are any new sources in which I can find more information as well.

Evil

Deven: Write about one interpretation of evil and then write about how you see this interpretation.

There are many different interpretations of evil; take the devil and villains for example. Some people may use these figures to base their own meaning of the word, and how it functions throughout their life. Evil in my perspective, is the opposite of good. The bad within people. Now this bad does not necessarily have to be the flaws or "bad traits" but the mistakes, and bad decisions that are made as well.

Throughout my day, you see evil in many different ways. Evil can be considered stabbing a friend in the back by making their secrecy known to a group of people. All though this is not pure evil, this is the bad that a person does. Evil can be fixed by the good of someone as well. Just as though their is a devil, an angle exists as well. Each and everyone of us have evil within us, but its the angle side of us that over comes and makes us the good person we are.
